Metal music is still rock but there is a huge difference. Actually, metal is a sub genre of rock music. Under rock music, you will find alternatives, punk, rock pop, hard rock, soft rock, electric, house music and also metal.

Metal is the one involving screaming, high beats, rock symbolic signs and you can hardly hear the lyrics. Songs by BMTH and SlipKnot are example of songs which are metal. You can try listening to their songs and other rock songs and you will notice the difference.

I've always thought metal is the same as hard rock. I mean, if there is any difference it's subtle. In both genres, there is so much going on; some would call it noise.

I can see why you would assume they are the same, since they might sound the same to some, they are relatively different, to me metal is a bit too hard.

I am not really a rocker fan but from what I understand, metal or maybe it is heavy metal that have the kind of ear-splitting music. With rock, it is the beat that matters and in heavy metal, it is the instrument and the volume. Correct me if I'm wrong on this. That is what I recall from one workshop lecturer about the genre of music. And maybe for an easier classification, rock music is kind of faster in beat while metal is more of slower.

I can easily determine which is Metal and Rock. Metal is a genre where the vocalists sing like they are super angry at the world, everything. When you are having a headache and you would rather die than finishing the song, that's what you call a Metal song.

Rock on the other hand is easy to listen to. It's more relaxed and it is my favorite type of music.

Metal rock or sometimes referred to as hard metal rock has its roots in the blues and psychedelic rock subgenres. ... As for metal rock the distortion is strong as the overdrive is sustained longer creating a deeper, heavier sound. With plain hard rock a classic drum set with no double bass pedal is used.

Rock may be plain hard rock utilizes the classic overdrive sound created when the tubes on an amplifier or specific part on it like the drive knob have been pushed to the limit. This creates a long sustained sound with a twang and the distortion is light. As for metal rock the distortion is strong as the overdrive is sustained longer creating a deeper, heavier sound. With plain hard rock a classic drum set with no double bass pedal is used.

Your statement sounds funny, however, I tend to agree with you. The major difference between rock and metal is how the vicalistsings and how the msucicians play. Like you said, in the metal the vocoalist sounds angry and aggressive.
